The fourth painting in my series of small paintings. I’m quite liking this size and wasn’t quite sure how difficult/possible this amount of detail would be.
I started my drawing on a wood panel that I primed with neutral grey oil paint. I don’t thin any of my layers with solvent. This keeps me as non toxic as possible.
Getting a solid handle on my colour mixtures. This fabric makes me feel like i’m doing a painting within a painting.
A few sessions later. It’s hard not to second guess my colour saturation and values based on what I see of the paint laying down. I’m not judging too much until my light source is visible in the background.
At this point I’m getting a much better sense of depth and volume. Quite pleased with the progress. Although it’s quite slow.
I’m liking how the background is working however i’m noting that I’ll need to get some more contrast in my values. I’ll be able to get this near the end with glazing in some darks.
Almost done. Didn’t think this one would take as much time as it did. I want to make sure that I never feel that I’m having to rush. Seems against the laws of ‘art’.
