I'm trying a smoother panel for this piece thinking the subject matter might be appropriate. Tin foil has been on my painting bucket list and I figured this would be a great time to tackle it. I combined my other bucket list item of a brilliant red background.
The red background also gives me beautiful reflections in the foil so I get to stray from the typical wrinkled foil motif.
With my paintings I want to represent my pieces as not overly idealized. So, every weird crinkle and fold will be rendered. To me it's the imperfections in the subject that make the painting more 'real'.
With some of the red background painted in i'm able to better assess the values and hue of the reflected reds. As it turned out the reflected red was a bit weak in a few areas so I'm able to adjust.
Taking a bit of time to go back over previous sections and doing adjustments. There’s so much detail in this piece that it would be hard to remember everything for a second pass.
I quite like the left side of this piece. A good variation of detail and reflections from the right side.
